Tokyo Tokyo FESTIVAL Special 13, Powered by Spresense™

Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation

Sony Semiconductor Solutions provided Spresense™ (https://www.sony-semicon.co.jp/e/products/smart-sensing/spresense/) technology for “Coded Field”, a light and sound installation planned and produced by Rhizomatiks at Tokyo Tokyo FESTIVAL Special 13, organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Arts Council Tokyo (Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture).

Light and Sound Installation “Coded Field” is a public art project that weaves together light and sound set in and around the main Jodo Buddhist temple of Zojoji in Tokyo’s historic and traditional Shiba district in Minato-ku. Also featuring live performance, this is an interactive installation, enjoyed by many participants simultaneously at the spacious venue.

Spresense was used as the main board in the balloon-shaped devices developed independently for the project, which are then held by participants. Devices use the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and are equipped with LEDs and speakers. Even at outdoor events without fixed seating, the device can apply GNSS positioning information to control emitted light and sound. At this event, speakers in about a thousand handheld devices will create an unprecedented soundscape together. Providing this technology contributes to Tokyo’s vibrant culture in anticipation of coming events in 2020.
