Announcement of Novel Coronavirus Infected Persons Outbreak

Sony Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation

It was confirmed that a total of five people working at Sony Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation’s Oita Technology Center (3500, Oaza Matsuoka, Oita-shi, Oita), including three employees, one temporary staff, and one partner company employee were infected with coronavirus (COVID-19).

One of the employees showed symptoms of a fever and had a medical examination at the hospital on May 2. On the same day, the employee tested positive with a PCR test and has received medical treatment at home now.
The temporary staff showed symptoms of a fever and had a medical examination at the hospital on May 1. The temporary staff tested positive with a PCR test on May 2 and has received medical treatment at a designated facility.
Another employee and the partner company employee showed symptoms of a fever on May 2. They had a medical examination at the hospital and tested positive with a PCR test on May 3 and have received medical treatment at home now.
The other employee showed symptoms of a fever on May 3 and tested positive with a PCR test on May 4. The employee has received medical treatment at home now.

There is no close contact as defined by our company regulations within the site. Since necessary disinfection cleaning at the premises was completed, there is no impact on operations of our production lines.

Sony Semiconductor Manufacturing has been taking measures to prevent further spread such as promotion of flexible work (working from home). We will carry out business operations primarily focused on ensuring the safety of its employees, its customers and partners in addition to preventing the further spread of the virus both inside and outside the company.
